Occupational Therapy
Our occupational therapy sessions and programs take place outdoors in nature. We use nature as a co-facilitator in all of our group programs and private sessions.
Ms. Taylor Brooks OTD
Taylor Brooks, OTD, OTR/L, is an Occupational Therapist with experience in Pediatric and Neurological Outpatient clinics. She received her Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Science in 2021 and went on to complete her Doctorate of Occupational Therapy at Lincoln Memorial University between 2021 and 2024. Growing up in Tennessee, Taylor Brooks spent her time hiking in the mountains and exploring the greater Middle and Eastern TN area, developing a love for the outdoors and what it has to offer. During this time of exploration, she connected nature to an experience promoting overall mental and physical well-being. She has a great amount of experience working with children of all ages from her experience as a nanny, as well as working as a Lifeguard and Camp Counselor.
While Taylor was receiving her B.S. of Exercise Science at MTSU, she worked as an outdoor trip leader for Middle Tennessee Outdoor Pursuits (MTOP) all 4 years and had the privilege of taking college students on a variety of trips within the Southeastern states. She was a designated trip leader for the Blue Raider American Veterans Organization (B.R.A.V.O.) and promoted a positive experience in nature, promoting social participation and coping skills for the Veterans. Through this experience, she was able to witness how spending time in nature improves our overall mental health and well-being.
Throughout her time at LMU, Taylor fell more in love with the holistic approach that Occupational Therapy provides for individuals and recognized the correlation that can be made between the outdoors and OT. She completed her research-based project at EXPLORE and specifically focused on how Nature-Based Therapy affects children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This experience offered her a chance to gain a deeper understanding of how being in the natural environment is essential for promoting growth, specifically with executive functioning and social participation. She is firmly established in the belief that participating in our natural environment is essential, specifically for children. She is devoted to providing client-centered care using nature-based therapy to improve the overall experience for the child and their family participating.
Apart from her professional life, Taylor seeks new adventures to go on with her dog Zoey. Whether it be hiking up a mountain, walking on the beach, skiing, or photographing their experience, they are a package deal. In both personal and professional life, she believes that spending time in nature is beneficial for one to be able to connect to the world, themselves, and others.
